Kiling sacred cows that hinder healing is as important as it is difficult. A Google search of the topic explains, “A ‘sacred cow’ in the church is a tradition that has been exalted to a position of normalcy without Biblical warrant. Sacred cows are often hard to get rid of because they are accepted and considered respectable in Christianity.” The notion that “healing miracles passed away with the Apostles” is a sacred cows we need to be killing.
Healing miracles passed away with the Apostles
Western countries scoff at people starving in India while an abundance of cows roams the streets. Their religion has decided that cows are sacred and cannot be killed. Christians can be just as blind to the Truth regarding important subjects in their Bibles. Many denominations teach that “Healing miracles passed away with the Apostles.” This is a sacred cow. India’s sacred cows can keep them from enjoying a healthy meal. Our sacred cows can keep us from having saved spirits, renewed minds, and healed bodies. We cannot move forward into divine healing until we remove strongholds of unbelief.
“Healing miracles passed away with the Apostles,” is just one of many sacred cows, and it must be killed. Sacred cows are religious beliefs that are not Biblically true or accurate. They try to make an excuse for not believing a truth that is clearly seen in the Bible. Most sacred cows are not just a difference in doctrine. They are a hindrance to knowing the goodness of God. Most deprive believers of a benefit that they could otherwise enjoy. These benefits are part of our inheritance in Christ.
The only hindrance to healing
Curry Blake, a minister who regularly disproves this sacred cow with miracles of healing says, “The only hindrance to healing is that you believe there are hindrances to healing.”
The problem of man-made traditions, and sacred cows hindering believers, is not a new one. Jesus encountered it. Jesus said, “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.” Mark 7:13
Why do some say healing miracles passed away?
Where did we get the idea that “healing miracles passed away with the Apostles?” For the last several hundred years churches often replaced Bible Truth with self-serving ritual observances and traditions. This made them look less and less like the churches of the New Testament era.
Over time, as the truth of divine healing was not taught, they did not see as many healing miracles take place. Since Christians did not see these, they got defensive and tried to come up with an excuse as to why not. Otherwise, the world that hates God, because they do not want to be obligated to a Creator, will say our miracle-working God passed away.
The argument is that these miracles were only things Jesus, being God, or Apostles with special miraculous power, could do. The reason was to prove that Jesus is God. It goes on to argue that they did not have Bibles, so the Apostles were given special power to perform miracles. This could convince unbelievers to accept the message with miracle-working signs. Now that we have the Bible, it makes reliance on first-century Apostles to do miracles no longer necessary.
“Jesus was God in the flesh, so He could do miracles.”
The Bible says Jesus emptied Himself of divine pre-incarnate power, became flesh, and dwelt among us. What He did was limited to what a man, empowered by the Holy Spirit could do.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15
If Jesus was not passing the test of all temptation while relying on only the same power available to men, it was not an authentic testing of a man. It must be a man that passes the tests that Adam failed who is able to redeem Adam.
So how does Jesus do the miracles?
Jesus said His miracles of healing are done by the Holy Ghost (Spirit).
22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. 3 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 2 Mark 3:22-24
Jesus was furious with their attributing His miracles of healing and removing demons to demonic forces instead of to the Holy Spirit.
“The Apostles had special divine powers given to them.”
If we think only the Apostles could do miraculous works it means we are not expected to do what they did. Yet the Bible shows many others who were given power to heal, and Jesus will also ask us to do the same. Ordained, means authorized, appointed to execute, to do. Jesus later ordained 70 disciples, not twelve, to go out with the same power to heal. It is the same power of God, by the Spirit of God, that Jesus used, not a different kind. After His resurrection, the Holy Spirit is sent at Pentecost to take up residence inside all believers.
“Having the Bible we do not need to do miracles”
Jesus said far more than eleven of the twelve will have the same mission to spread the Gospel, and the same power to do the mission.
8 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John 17:18-21
Not just these, but those who believe their word. Those that believe their word will have the same relationship Jesus had with the Father, The believers will have the same mission, and the same power and authority to do the mission.
It is the Holy Spirit
It is receiving the Holy Spirit that gives believers access to the power they need. Why would God take away the power to do signs of healing or any of the other signs? We still need the same power to live a victorious life and demonstrate that our miracle-working God is not dead.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:12-13
Killing sacred cows that hinder healing
Bible Truth is true, whether we see it or not, or believe it or not. All sacred cows that provide a hindrance to healing must be killed off. Let go of any strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
